In this page you will learn how to import video data into SAVANT in two different ways:
You can upload MP4 videos from a local storage. We will convert them to the right format and store them in a dedicated AWS S3 location and make them available for you in the platform.
If you are a user of the Touch Surgery Ecosystem you can import your videos directly into SAVANT.
Upload from local storage
Go to the “Files” section in the left-hand navigation bar, where you will see the different folders that are available for you to upload your data. If you haven’t created any, then the list will be empty. These folders are directly mapped to a location in AWS S3, which you can see in the details of the folder.
To create a new folder, click on the “New Project” button and provide the following information:
The Project Name will be the name of the folder where you will put your data.
The S3 bucket name is the name of the bucket in S3 where your data will be stored. Unless you have been advised otherwise by a member of the SAVANT team, this should be
ml-media-savant.The S3 folder is the unique name of a folder in S3 where your data will be stored. If the folder name is not unique within the bucket, then you will see an error and you will need to try a new name.
Once your folder has been created, you will be able to see it in the list in the Files Explorer tab. You can click into any folder to see which data has been uploaded to it already or to upload new data to the folder. You can also click on the “Edit” button to the right of the row to consult the details of the folder you created; the only detail you can update is the folder’s description.
Within a folder, you can see the different options available to upload data:
Upload folder allows you to upload entire directories from your file system.
Upload files allows you to select which files to upload to SAVANT.
When files have been successfully uploaded they will appear in the “Registered videos” tab and they will be assigned a unique ID in SAVANT. You can use this ID later to select your video for annotations and in the API to access all references to each video. Videos uploaded will also appear in the video registry (“Video” tab on the left-hand navigation) with source “SAVANT”. To learn more about the video registry, consult our guide about it.
Import from Touch Surgery Ecosystem
If you are a user of TSE, then you can benefit from our video registry integration. To import videos from TSE go to the video registry (“Video” tab on the left-hand navigation) and select “Add Video(s)”. You will then be prompted to paste the video IDs that you wish to import; these should be the unique video identifiers provided by TSE which you can find in the URL when you open your video in TSE.
Once the videos have been successfully imported, they will appear in the video registry with the same unique ID as they had in TSE. Once imported, videos will be automatically registered in SAVANT and they will be ready to be used for annotations.
What next
After uploading all the data that you will need in your project, we recommend that you proceed to creating a profile for annotation.
